Teaching - From Seed To Table
Your 12-week seed-to-table program
From the moment your garden is installed, you're in good hands. You'll receive a personalised welcome video, then a new guided video each week, from first seeds to your first harvest. Each one covers exactly what's happening in your garden right now. By season's end, you'll feel confident, connected, and ready for what's next. We're with you the whole way. 🌱
Community
Growing food is better together
One of the greatest joys of growing your own food is sharing it — the wins, the questions, the bumper crops, the meals. Once your garden is installed, you'll be welcomed into our private Facebook community to ask questions, share progress, and connect with fellow growers. In Sydney, we also host seasonal get-togethers where members cook and share from their own patches. From the ground up, together. 🌱

About Us
Hi, we're From the Ground Up Gardens, and we're on a mission to get Northern Beaches families growing their own food.
From the Ground Up Gardens was founded by Emma, a Manly local and passionate organic veggie grower who got tired of watching families pay through the nose for supermarket produce that's travelled thousands of kilometres and been sprayed with who-knows-what along the way.
With grocery bills climbing and fuel costs pushing food prices even higher, Emma decided enough was enough and set out to help local families on the Northern Beaches and North Shore of Sydney take back control of what's on their plates.
The good news? You don't need to be a gardener. You don't need to know anything. That's exactly what we're here for.
We deliver, install, and plant your raised organic veggie garden, then guide you through every single week of your first harvest with a short, easy-to-follow weekly video series. No overwhelm, no wasted afternoons Googling, no half-used bags of soil in the garage. Just fresh, organic food grown at home on the Northern Beaches.
"We don't just build your garden and walk away. We're with you from the first seed to the first meal — because that's where the magic is."

Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about our services
Flexible pricing
Pricing depends on the size of the space you'd like to use and whether you'd like multiple garden beds installed. Also, because each size requires a different volume of organic compost, fertiliser, etc., it's easier to talk through options on the phone.
Every single option, regardless of size, comes with our full 12-week Seed to Plate program: guided videos and weekly emails from planting day through your first harvest. Get in touch, and we'll put together a quote that fits your space and budget.
Good news
Most failed veggie attempts come down to the wrong soil, wrong seeds, or simply not knowing what to do week by week.
We remove all three of those obstacles.
We arrive at your door and fully install a raised organic garden bed with 100% organic, GMO-free seeds and premium, compost-rich soil, so you don't lift a finger in the research or setup.
Then, from day one, you'll receive our 12-week Seed to Plate support: weekly videos and emails guide you through exactly what to do at each stage, so there's no guesswork.
As long as you give your garden water (3–4 times a week) and sunlight, you're set up to succeed.
If you have any questions or issues through your first 12 weeks, give us a call or text, and we're here to support you.
It's simple - Nature is amazing and knows what to do.
As long as you water your seeds/seedlings 3–4 times per week and make sure the area gets daily sunlight. That's the baseline.
Each week, we send you a short video that lets you know if anything else is needed at that stage, such as thinning seedlings, checking for pests, or getting ready for harvest.
Most weeks it really is just water and sun.
Absolutely
We have a raised organic veggie garden bed designed specifically for balconies. It's raised so it doesn't damage your balcony tiles, and the best part is it comes with a sealed lid to protect your seeds and seedlings from birds and possums. It's also a 'self-watering' veggie garden, so you just add water to the base once a week, and the veggies grow. Perfect if you travel or are a little forgetful with watering. Very beginner and balcony friendly.
Each balcony garden can have up to 5 veggies planted, and you can order multiple raised veggie gardens if you have the space
No backyard needed.
Good to know
Vegetables love sunlight, ideally 6+ hours a day in a north-facing spot.
We may ask you to send through photos of the space, and we'll help you find the sunniest position.
But honestly, we want to set you up for success, and sunlight is an important factor, so if it's too shady, we may need to figure out another option.
If your outdoor space is quite shaded, our wheeled balcony bed can be moved to wherever the light is best throughout the day.
Why it matters
With food and fuel costs continuing to rise across Australia, growing even a portion of your own food makes a real difference to the weekly shop.
But it goes deeper than this, as so much of what we buy at the supermarket is sprayed with pesticides and chemicals that can accumulate in our bodies over time.
When you grow from organic seed in organic soil, you know exactly what's on your family's plates.
It's empowering, it's healthier, and it connects you to where real food actually comes from.
100% organic
We source from two trusted, specialist organic seed suppliers based in NSW and VIC.
Every seed we use is 100% organic, GMO-free, and completely free from pesticides.
From the moment something goes into the ground, you know exactly what it is and where it came from.
Our secret weapon
Certain vegetables, herbs, and flowers genuinely help each other thrive when planted together; that's companion gardening.
For example, lettuce and onions are a perfect pairing: slugs and snails hate the smell of onions, so they stay well away from your lettuce leaves.
We also plant companion herbs and flowers (such as organic marigolds) throughout your garden to attract beneficial pollinators and naturally deter harmful pests, all without any chemicals.
Two great options
By the time you finish your first harvest, you'll have 12 weeks of videos and experience behind you, and many people feel confident enough to start planning their next season independently.
If you'd prefer a helping hand, we offer a renewal service where we come back out, refresh the compost, and plant your next round of seasonal organic vegetables for you with new videos for a new season of veggies. Just like the beginning, but you'll know so much more this time around.
I already have a veggie garden — can I still access your weekly videos?
Absolutely
No problem at all. Our Seed to Plate program is available to purchase as a standalone for just $97, and it's designed to support any home gardener, not just our installation customers.
The program covers everything from how to build your own raised veggie garden and set up companion planting, through to 12 weeks of weekly videos showing you exactly what to expect at each stage of growth, and how to handle any issues, pests, or surprises along the way.
Whether you're starting fresh or want to level up an existing patch, Seed to Plate gives you the knowledge and confidence to grow food you're proud of.
Northern Beaches & beyond
We're currently operating across the Northern Beaches in Sydney, delivering, installing, and supporting organic veggie gardens throughout the area.
We have exciting plans to expand further in 2026. If you're outside the Northern Beaches right now, please don't let that stop you from reaching out. We'd love to hear from you, and we'll do our best to see if we can make it work.
Not in our zone yet? Get in touch anyway — we're growing fast, and your area might be next.
You can absolutely grow vegetables directly in the ground, and plenty of people do. But a raised garden bed gives you a serious head start, especially if you want to grow organically and with confidence.
Here's why:
Far fewer pests. Slugs, snails, and ground-dwelling insects have a much harder time reaching your plants in a raised bed. When combined with companion planting, most gardens require little to no intervention.
You control the soil. In-ground soil can be compacted, nutrient-poor, or full of unknowns. In a raised bed, every layer is intentional. We use a six-part organic layering system sometimes called the lasagne method, or officially Hügelkultur in which we build up alternating layers of carbon- and nitrogen-rich organic matter. Over time, this breaks down into incredibly rich, living soil that feeds your plants from below, retains moisture, and requires very little additional input, season after season.
Better drainage. Roots stay healthy because water moves through freely rather than pooling around them.
Warms up faster. Raised beds absorb heat more efficiently, which means seeds germinate quicker and your growing season can start earlier.
Easier on your body. No kneeling or bending low — raised beds bring the garden up to a comfortable working height.
Defined, manageable space. Knowing exactly where your garden is makes it easier to tend, water, and monitor week by week.
The Hügelkultur or lasagne layering method works especially well in raised beds because everything stays contained, builds beautifully, and the results, in both soil quality and crop output, speak for themselves.
Absolutely. Our best advice is to choose vegetables you'll actually eat. There's no point growing a beautiful crop of beetroot if you don't like them.
Each month of the year has roughly 10–14 varieties of veggies suitable for planting from seed.
Depending on when your garden is delivered and installed, we'll send you a curated list of 10–14 options that are right for that season, and we'll guide you toward the best companion-planting combinations so your chosen veggies support each other's growth.
Depending on the size of your garden bed, you'll typically plant between 4–8 types of vegetables, plus the companion flowers and herbs we select to encourage pollination and keep pests at bay naturally.
The month you start matters, seasonal planting is one of the biggest secrets to success, and we take care of all of that thinking for you.
Our trusted choice
We looked at a lot of options before settling on Birdies, and the decision was easy.
Birdies are proudly Australian-owned, have been designed in Australia since 2007, and are built from Australian BlueScope steel.
When we're delivering a fully organic, locally minded service, it's important that the bed itself lives up to the same values.
Birdies beds are made from Aluzinc steel, a high-performance alloy of zinc, magnesium, and aluminium that is significantly more corrosion-resistant than standard galvanised steel.
Owners regularly report no signs of rust or wear after 10+ years of outdoor use. They're built to last a generation, not a season.
Australian-owned. Australian steel. Designed to outlast anything else on the market. That's why we chose Birdies, and why we stand behind them completely.
Built to last 20+ years
Birdie's garden beds come with a 5-year manufacturer's warranty covering structural integrity, coating performance, and manufacturing defects.
The beds are engineered to last 20+ years in outdoor conditions, and Birdies stand behind that promise: if it rusts through, they replace it.
Rust-resistant by design. Backed by a warranty that we'll hand over to you at installation.
This is a one-time investment in your garden that will be with your family for years to come.
Charcoal as standard
Our standard installation garden beds come in charcoal, a rich, deep tone that looks beautiful against greenery, suits almost every outdoor space, and sits perfectly in both modern and traditional gardens. We love it, and our customers do too.
Included as standard
Birdies do offer other colours, and we can absolutely source them for you; however, additional colours come at a higher price point and may affect lead times.
If you have your heart set on a specific colour to match your outdoor aesthetic, just reach out and we'll get you a quote.
Grass or soil only
Birdies raised garden beds are designed to sit directly on grass or natural soil and that's actually part of what makes them work so well.
Placing the bed on the ground allows for natural drainage, encourages earthworms to move up through the soil layers, and lets the lasagne layering system do exactly what it's designed to do.
We do not recommend placing the beds on concrete, pavers, tiles, or any hard surface. Here's why:
Without natural drainage, water can pool beneath the bed, causing the organic matter in the lower layers to rot prematurely rather than decompose beneficially.
Hard surfaces restrict airflow and moisture movement, which can affect both the soil health and the longevity of the steel base over time.
Plants in raised beds benefit enormously from deep root access to the ground below, which is entirely lost on a hard surface.
If you only have a concrete balcony or terrace, our wheeled balcony bed is a different product specifically designed for that surface. Ask us about it when you get in touch.
